Kurhaus – a symbol of the resort – the beginning of history is associated with the Tiskevich dynasty. The graph J. Tiskevicius in about 1877 in the corner of the current Vytautas and J. Basanavicius streets, built a spacious restaurant, which was soon expanded and the first resort hotel was established there. Kurhaus became a popular and pobeloved place for gatherings, as there was not only a restaurant, but also a reading room, billiard and other games room. In this building there were also dances, performances and concerts. This is how Kurhaus became the heart of the newly created resort. There was an informational office on the first floor of Kurhaus, a resort fee was collected. In 1910 neat Kurhaus a 230-meter-deep artesian well that provided the resort with better drinking water was excavated.
